Methods for quality inspection of electrical connectors based on 3D data

Abstract:

Electrical connectors used in industrial applications require dimensional accuracy. Quality analysis has to be done to verify the location and orientation of manufactured connector pins. This thesis is focused on finding a proper inspection mechanism for electrical connector pins by which defects in manufacturing can be pointed out. For this, laser triangulation based scanning technique is used for measuring the height map of connector pins. Four methods are proposed for finding out the pin top location. A comparison of the proposed methods is done and each method is evaluated. A program is implemented for comparing the identified pin locations with design information of the connector from the data sheet. Thus the spatial accuracy of connector pins can be verified.
