Early Cognitive Vision: Vision for Intelligent Systems

Zusammenfassung:

In the first part of the talk, an 'Early cognitive Vision' (ECV) system is described. The ECV system is designed as a visual front-end facilitating the realisation of higher level processes, in particular on intelligent robot systems. Basic design choices of the system have been motivated by analogies to the human visual system. Important principles guiding the design of the ECV system are (1) the realization of a deep hierarchy, (2) the covering of multiple visual modalities in expressive descriptors and (3) the explicitness of (visual) information at all levels of the hierarchy. The current status of the ECV system is presented as well as a number of applications, in particular in the context of certain learning tasks connected to robotics. Our ECV system is available as an open source software library at www.covig.org.
