ESAB-I

Research Project ESAB-I

Subject

Development of algorithms for active image analysis and the acceleration of those algorithms by methods of hardware/software codesign

Abstract

Active vision systems are characterized by the autonomous exploration of their environment. Their tasks are the fixation of present objects and the recognition of learned objects in any arbitrary position. Several of these systems imitate the visual information processing of intelligent living beings.

In the active vision project ESAB-I, a new algorithm of a silicon retina (modified logarithmic transformation) was realized in hardware. In addition, we developed further algorithms for gaze control of active vision systems and for recognition of complex objects. The modules of the retina, the gaze control, and the object identification were integrated within the existent active vision system NAVIS.
